Erin Trujeque Memorial Tournament

Sadly, Erin never got to host his golf tournament. He lost his battle with cancer. But now, a quarter century--and more than $2 million--later, the tournament bearing his name lives on.

The 24th Annual Erin Trujeque Memorial was held July 9-10, 2009 at the University of New Mexico Championship Golf Course. The RAKS Building Supply Pro-Am (July 9) was a 4-person plus one pro red, white and blue scramble drawing over 150 participants. The Lexus of Albuquerque Erin Trujeque Memorial (July 10), a 4-adult plus one junior red, white and blue scramble, drew some 400 more. Golfers at all levels participated. “We don’t seek out celebrities,” said tournament Director George Trujeque, Erin’s father. “The real celebrities are the children who are courageously fighting cancer.”

Funds raised from the event benefit the Children’s Cancer Fund of New Mexico, a 501-c-3 non-profit organization dedicated to helping New Mexico’s children, as well as their families, to cope with the day-to-day needs of fighting and living with cancer. In addition to “Bravery Bucks,” children and faimlies may receive toys, snacks and drinks, gift cards, zoo, Aquarium and movie passes, wigs, auto care and gasoline vouchers, travel and lodging expenses, scholarships, as well as special requests and equipment.

Erin Trujeque loved to play golf. Erin Teujeque loved people. And his spirit lives on in the hearts and minds of his loved ones, his friends, those who have participated in his tournament, and the families he has touched through it.
